If you are looking to buy a home or just did, congratulations, but you had better get to work looking for insurance. With companies refusing to write new policies, many Floridians find themselves in a dilemma.
Do your homework. Persistence will pay off. Research all available insurance options. Ask your friends and neighbors who insures them. Call your other insurance companies, auto, life, etc, they may be able to offer some guidance.
Call 1-800-524-9023 or log on to fmap.org. This is part of the Citizen’s Property Insurance Company and they offer the Florida Market Assistance Plan, which can help you find private insurance.
If all else fails the Citizen’s Property Insurance Company is a state sponsored pool with high premiums. This is a last resort option for consumers.
