You may be eligible for assistance from FEMA.

Since last year’s hurricane season, you’ve undoubtedly heard The Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) mentioned often in the news. Yes, there have been controversies, but everyone living in “Hurricane Alley” should become familiar with this agency’s services.
In brief, FEMA may provide financial assistance and, if necessary, direct services to eligible individuals and households who, as a direct result of a major disaster, have necessary expenses and serious needs and are unable to meet such expenses or needs through other means.
It is advisable to thoroughly review the information at www.Fema.gov, before storm season, and keep a listing of FEMA’s telephone numbers
1-800-621-FEMA (3362), 1-800-462-7585 TDD for speech and hearing impaired, with your insurance and other important papers.
Should you find yourself in a Presidentially declared disaster area, and you have damage not covered by your insurance, you may be eligible for assistance through the Individuals and Houses Program (IHP) and/or the Small Business Administration(SBA). When you call FEMA, have this information ready:
-Your Social Security Number.
-A description of your losses that were caused by the disaster.
-Insurance Information.
-Directions to your damaged property.
-A telephone number where you can be contacted. You will be provided with an application number, and within about 10 days, if an inspection is needed, you will be contacted to make an appointment.
You must be present at the inspection and show proof of ownership.
The inspector will then file the report and you will hear from IHP in approximately 10 days.
